After six years, we thought it was about time that we discussed a long-discussed but still core topic in archaeology: “identities” in past and present, and how can we methodologically approach identities in archaeological contexts. Thus, the third meeting of TAG-Turkey focused on the archaeological study of identities. A high number of intriguing papers were presented, dealing with themes including but not limited to gender, sex, sexualities, age and childhood, status, hierarchies, power, social, collective, and regional identities, as well as the construction of identities in funerary rites, studying identities through the lens of material culture, personhood, and social differentiation.
The third meeting of TAG-Turkey was organized by Melis Uzdurum, Sera Yelözer, Ece Sezgin and Dilara Nil Çolak. 52 participants presented their work in 10 sessions. The meeting was held online on zoom for four days due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of attendees reached 326, which was a great success.
